Over 55,000 confirmed with over 800 dead from Covid-19 in the US
More than 55,000 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the U.S. as of today, according to the CDCand Johns Hopkins University. As seen in tracking by Johns Hopkins, all states are now affected, with West Virginia logging its first case last week despite having tested only 137 people at that point. New York state, where there are currently more than 26,000 confirmed cases, is responsible for around half of all national infections. Infection numbers have also risen steeply in several other states - among them Georgia and Texas, where infection number rose above 1,000 on Wednesday.
More than 800 people have succumbed to the disease in the country. 192 deaths were recorded in New York City, more than the 94 people who died in Washington's King county, an early hot spot of the disease. Many of the King county deaths occurred in connection with the Life Care Center retirement community.
