Labour and Mฤori Party claim seats, National loses two MPs in final vote tally Labour has built on its historic election win, the Mฤori Party has a second MP, and the decimation of National has worsened with the final count of votes cast in the 2020 election. The official results of the election, including more than 500,000 special votes, were announced by the Electoral Commission on Friday. National MPs Matt King and Denise Lee were out of Parliament, losing the Northland and Maungakiekie electorates, bringing the National Party down to 33 seats in Parliament. Dr Shane Reti will remain in Parliament as a list MP, despite losing the Whangarei seat.  Labour claimed another seat in the House, reaching exactly 50 per cent of the vote and claiming marginal victories in three more electorate seats. Labour's Emily Henderson will enter the House having won the Whangฤrei seat. . . The Mฤori Party increased its share of the party vote to 1.2 per cent, meaning co-leader Debbie Ngarewa...

Jacinda Ardern now leads the most powerful governments NZ has seen

Jacinda Ardern now leads the most powerful governments NZ has seen Jacinda Ardern's new "COVID cabinet" is pretty much the same as - and completely unlike - every previous government under the mixed member proportional (MMP) system. The similarity involves the political accommodation reached between Labour and the Greens. Every government formed since 1996 has rested on  such arrangements . This one does too. Add to that the arrangement with the Greens and they have a massive 74-seat bloc in the House - 13 more than is needed to govern. In brute political terms, Ardern is at the head of one of (and perhaps the) biggest parliamentary alliances in the nation's history. . . The Greens’ consolation prize The deal announced over the weekend is a cooperation agreement. Think of it as the smallest of the consolation pr...

They tweeted out this graf from the article, and then stealth edited the graf out of the piece. https://t.co/lmABbl5ely — JERRY DUNLEAVY (@JerryDunleavy) April 12, 2020 This is amazing. The last thing you want to be is a woman who accuses an important Democratic Party leader of sexual misconduct or harassment. Few people are publicly treated worse. Ask Paula Jones, Juanita Broaddrick, Monica Lewinsky and so many others. And now Tara Reade: https://t.co/ywC9YDjLVn — Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) April 12, 2020 If you are really observant, you can detect a subtle difference in the way that the New York Times attempted to destroy and defame Brett Kavanaugh with no evidence and how they move to protect Joe Biden from a former employee's accusation. https://t.co/XR7Jz7HW9h — Mollie (@MZHemingway) April 12, 2020 I’m sure there is perfectly logical explanation for this change that nobody at the New York Times will explain. https://t.co/ygS8gwmoRB — Stephen L...
