𝗜 n his UN and military addresses, President Trump made several blatantly false claims, exaggerating achievements and distorting facts to enhance his image. Starting with his September 23, address to the United Nations General Assembly and his September 30 speech to U.S. generals and admirals at Quantico, Virginia, President Donald Trump delivered messages heavy on self-congratulation and criticism of predecessors, but riddled with factual inaccuracies, exaggerations, and outright falsehoods.  These speeches, ...

The real danger is the president, not the pills

The real danger is the president, not the pills 𝗦 trange and dangerous claims by Donald Trump aren’t unusual, but this week’s effort is a particular doozy.  His latest outburst — or the last one before an extraordinary speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday — targeted pregnant women, warning that taking acetaminophen ( Tylenol,  paracetamol) puts their babies at risk of autism.  It’s a claim both utterly unsupported by actual science and currently being slammed in health experts’ reactions to his announcement.   In reality,  Tylenol/ P aracetamol  is one of the very few medicines that pregnant women can take.  New Zealand’s Ministry of Health says it continues to be the safest medicine to take in pregnancy if you require pain relief or treatment for fever.  But while Trump is yet again wrong, as usual his nonsense is dangerous.  Pregnancy already comes with a minefield of both real warnings and a Greek chorus of jud...

𝗢 n one day in September, America reeled from twin horrors: the sniper assassination of conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk on September 10 at Utah Valley University, and the 100th school shooting milestone, marked by the Evergreen High School rampage in Colorado that same day, where an 18-year-old gunman wounded two students before taking his own life.  These gut-wrenching tragedies—Kirk's death amid a surge of political killings, including the June murder of Democratic Rep. RNZ-Reid Research poll: More voters blame struggling economy on coalition than previous govt

RNZ-Reid Research poll: More voters blame struggling economy on coalition than previous govt. 𝗠 ore people blame the coalition for New Zealand's struggling economy than the previous Labour government, according to the RNZ-Reid Research poll.   And voters are becoming more pessimistic about the direction of the country.  The economic blame game has ramped up in recent months, with the government acknowledging times are tough but saying the previous government left it a mess it has had to clean up.   The now-opposition, meanwhile, rejects that, saying the coalition has had more than enough time to take some responsibility, and has made the wrong choices.  In the latest poll, 1000 voters were asked "who do you hold most responsible for NZ's struggling economy right now?".   Thirty-seven-point-six percent of respondents said the current coalition government was responsible (that is, National, ACT, and New Zealand First), while 30.8 percent blamed the ...
