Just two respondents out of 500 indicated support for Te Kahika, compared with the 179 who said they would support Labour's Kelvin Davis.

The Māori Party's Mariameno Kapa-Kingi was sitting on 18 percent support, while a further 32 percent said they were undecided.

Te Kahika is the co-leader of Advance New Zealand alongside Jami-Lee Ross, following a merger earlier this year.

The pair were banking on Te Kahika winning the Māori seat to get Advance New Zealand into the halls of power.

In terms of the party vote, Labour claimed the lions share with 58 percent support, while the Greens and the Māori party were neck and neck at 7 percent.
