the ongoing conflict, blaming both Hamas and Israel for the devastation in Gaza, which has claimed over 50,000 lives since October 2023, according to local health authorities.

Some protesters have also called for Hamas to release Israeli hostages and end its rule, with banners reading β€œHamas does not represent us” and β€œstop the war.”

These events follow Israel’s resumption of military operations in Gaza on March 18, 2025, after a ceasefire collapsed, leading to further displacement and deaths.

The protests, which began gaining momentum around March 25, are notable because Hamas has historically suppressed dissent in the territory it has controlled since 2007.

This time, however, there has been no reported violent crackdown, possibly due to Hamas’s weakened state amid Israel’s offensive.

Senior Hamas official Bassem Naim acknowledged the right to protest but criticized the focus on Hamas rather than Israel, suggesting political agendas might be at play.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz has encouraged these protests, framing them as a means to pressure Hamas into releasing hostages and ending the war.
